Greenkeeper Jottings

Firstly, hope everyone has coped well with our long lockdown.

During the past few months Greens maintenance has been reduced due to work restrictions from the Board due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Maintenance has been restricted to mowing the Greens and surrounds (Tony Smedley) and garden maintenance by the Coulston’s and Dawn Fraser.

As restrictions have eased work has commenced on upgrading the ditches and repair work to the rusted banks. Please be mindful of the maintenance and take extra care in these areas.

As restrictions for bowls are now being eased and roll-ups now allowed please note when you come down to practice you must play East/West.

The Greens are going in to dormancy (sleeping during winter months) and with recent rain, a little heavy. The newly renovated back Green is heavier than the other two and will require bowls and walk traffic to assist in its consolidation (will be open for practice more than the other two).

You may note that some painting has occurred in the clubhouse courtesy of Bruce Owen, Caroline Taylor and John Evans. The office is looking good with a “feature” wall.

There are many minor maintenance tasks around the Greens that can be completed by willing volunteers such as:

  • repainting the ditch numbers and rink markers.
  • cleaning of guttering (clubhouse and shelters)
  • cleaning of rubbish bins
  • general weeding under fences and shelters and inside water tank compound

See Swassy if you think that you can assist.

Great to see that we can slowly return to the Greens.
